Anorexia Articles - Are You at Risk for Having an Eating
Disorder
There are many questions in life that go unanswered but there
are some that should be explained to a greater detail ; such as
Eating Disorders. Many girls and young ladies see very
differently through their eyes than others when weight issues start
becoming a central theme in their life.
While female are more likely to go down this road let us not
forget that there is a growing number of young men suffering from
this as well. And that does include bulimic or anorexic
tendencies.
Another myth is that this is a young person's problem.
False. The longer and deep rooted an eating disorder becomes
in a persons life then it prolongs itself. There are still
many older people, including middle aged people suffering with
this.
If you think you are immune then think again. Most of the
cases of bulimic or anorexic tendencies can be found within a
loving family atmosphere. Maybe it was not deliberate but it
started there. Think about it, a simple statement like,
"Putting on a few pounds aren't you?" EVEN though the person does
not appear to be gaining weight can be a deadly comment.
Another factor that plays into this whole eating disorder
problem is having the need to control one's environment like a
compulsive disorder like OCD. This is yet another way for a
person to control their life. Add to this the fact that
people potentially suffering from anxiety, depression or even abuse
maybe a candidate for an eating disorder.
So far many potential sources of having an eating disorder has
been discussed but do not exclude people who have the need to OVER
exercise or even those that feel they need to compete in every
competition that comes around the corner.
But the biggest problem area is peer pressure. The old
saying "Kids can be mean." is VERY true. At such young ages
kids tend to have a fixed view about them. So when people
start to make fun of them then their own perceptions about
themselves change. Most of the time they survive this but
there are those that do not and end up with a severe eating
disorder.
There are many other reasons that can possibly be factored into
this problem but there is one common theme.
If you have this problem then you should seek advice. You
need to protect yourself. This kind of disorder is killing
your body. If you think that you are different and you won't
suffer then think again. The vast majority who are suffering
like you also think the same way.
It just does not work. It never has and never will.
Avoid the fantasy all together. It is not a win-win
situation and in the end you could die. Educate yourself,
your family, and your friends. If people still think that you
are fat or over weight then change your environment or possibly
your friends too. Families need to address this problem
head-on and quit hiding or turning their head to the problem.
After all, it could be the family’s fault that you or a loved one
is suffering from an eating disorder.
